Like in other states, there are various programs for treatment of drug and alcohol abuse in Indiana also. These programs are described below, arranged in the order of their increasing forms of aggressiveness.
Outpatient Treatment Programs
The outpatient treatment program in Indiana is conducted for people who are not grievously into the addiction yet.
These people are still mentally stable to work up a determination to stay away from the addictive substance, and they do not have any perceivable health problems due to the addiction yet. Generally, the outpatient addiction treatment in Indiana is provided for up to nine hours a week, divided between two or three sessions a week.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment Programs
These programs are more aggressive than the simple outpatient treatment programs in that they run for more than nine hours a week. There are longer sessions and the people are generally coached in both individual and group formats. They are also given an outpatient detoxification and their conditions are monitored. These people are able to make a determination to stay off the addictive substance but they need to be closely monitored to see that they adhere to this resolution.
Inpatient Treatment Programs
Inpatient treatment programs are for people for who the addictions have gone drastically high. These people are not able to keep control of themselves and they will face serious withdrawal symptoms if they are made to abstain from the substance. In fact, the very reason that these people are provided inpatient program is that they can be monitored medically during an extensive detox program. After the detox, they are moved onto an aftercare counseling and therapy program.
